Hello World

Yep, this is the classic first blog post. To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to write. It's not that I have nothing to say, quite the opposite. I have so many ideas and opinions to share that I just didn't know where to start. But for a first post, I think the best idea is to answer the classic 6 'W': Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How.

Who

I am a Franco-Canadian (aka a Québécois) who grew up in the countryside and has been living in the city for a while now.

More specifically, I am a web developer who's nostalgic for the internet of the 2000s—a time when personal websites, blogs, and forums were the norm, and autoplaying music, animated GIFs, Flash sites, and cluttered backgrounds were common. Besides being a developer, I am a huge video game fan. Since I was little, I’ve always had a controller in my hands, and like many kids, I dreamed of creating video games—a dream I put aside after learning more about the profession (maybe a topic for a future post).

For those who are curious, my favorite genres are:

  • JRPG
  • Puzzle
  • Platformer
  • Visual novel

My top 5 games:

  • Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
  • Persona 5
  • The Sims 2
  • Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack / Pokémon Puzzle League

Finally, my OC: Hurbain Dragonnix. Some of you may have guessed, he is my Sonic OC (and just like that, I probably just lost half of my readers 🙃) that I’ve had since my teenage years. Soon, I might write a post about his creation and story. Yes, I know it should be "Urban" without the "H" nor '"i", but let’s just say it’s an artistic choice rather than a spelling mistake.

What

It's a website… But seriously, this site is absolutely not serious. It will be divided into several sections:

  • Blog: Articles about anything and everything.
  • CSS Gallery (coming soon): CSS illustrations with code to reproduce them.
  • Nerd (coming soon): Articles about video games, anime, RPGs, and other nerdy topics.
  • Cooking (coming soon): Recipes, restaurant reviews, and homemade dish experiments.
  • Tutorials (coming soon): Guides on various programming techniques.

When

Uh… when I have the time! For the three people who will read this site (two if we don’t count my girlfriend, thanks for your support, my Flower ✿◠‿◠), I plan to implement an RSS feed and maybe a newsletter. Otherwise, you can follow my profile Neocities to know about all the site updates.

But hey, that’s kind of the charm of a website: checking back from time to time to see if there’s new content.

Where

Well… here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why

The one and only reason for this site: why not? I know it’s a simple answer, but it’s true. This site exists just to exist. You can also see it as a mix of an open journal and an experimental space, a corner of the web where I can express my creativity while amusing the few curious visitors.

How

For the tech-curious:

Final words

There you go. The start of my site. We’ll see if I stay motivated to keep it updated, but for now, I’d say yes.
